Improving One's Physical Appearance through Surgery

By Rodger Federrer

People have a misconception about plastic surgery. Unfortunately, some people think that plastic surgery is all about altering the physical look to become more appealing. Although there might be some truth to it, there is more to cosmetic surgery than meets the eye.

Plastic surgery helps rehabilitate any disfigured part of the body. Any physical disfigurement, whether from birth or acquired leaves behind a mental and emotional scar on an individual. Until a few years back, people who suffer from disfigurement are stigmatized. But in today's modern era, people who have disfigured body parts are no longer chained to their fates as they can opt for plastic surgery to fix their problems.

The eternal desire of humans to appear attractive has been around since time immemorial. In fact, both men and women have gone to great efforts to beautify themselves. Although the desire to be beautiful may well be universal, beauty still varies depending on an individual thus the idiom "beauty is in the eye of the beholder. On the other hand, the progress in plastic surgery has changed for hundreds of years. Plastic surgery predates back through several hundreds of years. Due to its rapid advancement and development, there are now lots of procedures that are available in order to change the different parts of the body. Examples of procedures include recreating the body's contour and shape, removal of wrinkles and also removal of unappealing parts of the body.

On the other hand, another study indicates that teenage women are more fearful of gaining weight than any other things. Especially among women, being judgmental is very common and that women who look attractive are perceived to be more sincere, kind than those who are not appealing. This might be biased but it is true.

Human beings live in a highly physical world and this is the reason why a lot of people opt for cosmetic surgery. Although health insurance rarely covers the cost of cosmetic procedures, the number of individuals deciding to undergo cosmetic plastic surgery continues to grow. There are a number of cosmetic surgery procedures that men and women can choose from in order to create an image that makes them feel more confident and comfortable with their appearance.

A person also needs to fully determine his or her motivation especially for those who want to go under the knife. For many with physical deformities whether genetic or acquired, it is natural to want to fit into society and feel normal. But many, if not most, plastic surgeries are attempts to meet emotional voids in order to attract attention or to seek approval from others.
