Fool Your Metabolism So That Your Weight Loss Doesn't Hit A Plateau

By Vanessa Summer

If you are like many people, then you have tried a number of diets, with varying degrees of success. You most likely lost a bit of weight, got to a certain point and then, regardless of what you tried, couldn't lose any more. This plateau is hit by just about everyone and is common amongst all of the different weight loss programs. You cannot prevent the plateau problem if you don't learn to trick your metabolism.

You probably have already had this plateau, which will normally end the diet plan with lots of discouragement. This is an odd thing that transpires to even the most successful dieters sometime close to the third or fourth week of the diet they have chosen. Until that point weight is coming off and then it just stops, and practically nothing works to keep the body slimming down. This is one way your body reacts to all of the changes you have been forcing upon it. Your body enters into protection mode to stop hunger, so it slows down your rate of metabolism. This, then, stops you from being able to get rid of more excess weight.

This is what makes many people believe that they simply aren't capable of reaching their weight loss objectives and they throw in the towel. At this stage , a lot of people go back to eating and start putting on back their weight usually more than they lost initially. The simplest way to stop this is to select a diet where your calories just get shifted. What you're trying to do is eat a different number of calories each day, which is designed to trick your metabolism. If this works on your body it will not enter "protective" mode. It will keep your body's metabolism churning at its present rate rather than going slower and you'll continue losing pounds. When you get to this point, you'll have passed your plateau and your diet will keep on working the way it was created to work.

It is really easy to integrate this type of plan into your day to day life. Most likely the most common method of caloric cycling is the 14 day method. In this plan, you stick to your diet for eleven days and then on the 12, 13 and 14th days you try to eat the things you really wish to eat. You switch your foods during the day, tricking your metabolism, and for three day eat what you want, avoiding the plateau. This is also quite handy in keeping you on track with the more stringent dieting plans. Just keep repeating the fourteen days until you've attained your weight loss goals.

Yet another popular program is the 2 day plan in which you eat normally one day and the next cut your calories by between twenty and thirty five percent. You can continue doing this every 2 days for as long as needed to get your weight off. This is a program that you should try, because it could be exactly what can get you past your plateau, to where you will drop all the weight you'd like.
