By Sean T Saunders

The unsightly raised areas of tough tissue which appear over the skin are called warts are these are caused by a type of viral infection brought on by the human papilloma virus. HPV virus spreads easily from one person to another as it is very contagious. Approximately 40 percentage of the human population have already been affected by this virus. The virus extract nourishment from the blood vessels and resides under the skin layers of the warts. Warts can be treated effectively using various treatment methods and it is possible to prevent them from coming back by taking certain safety measures. In this article, we are going to discuss the various treatment options that are available for the treatment of warts which appear on the genitals.

Many of the treatment options used for other forms of warts are not available to get rid of warts on genitals because of the sensitive nature of the skin in that area of the body. However there are three different alternative treatment methods available that could be used safely to get rid of the warts on genitals. They include the use of traditional folk treatment methods, application of skin creams and lotions that are available over the counter and surgical removal of the warts. The first option is the least expensive and safest while over the counter skin creams and lotions are reasonably inexpensive and are safe when used diligently. The most expensive of all the treatment methods is to get the warts treated surgically in a doctor's clinic or a medical facility. These types of procedures are generally safe because these are under the supervision of a health specialist but they might be very painful. Let us take a look at each of the three alternatives and the varied treatments which fall under that category.

1. Folk Remedies - A lot of people choose to use natural and holistic healing methods as opposed to modern chemicals and surgery. Many of these traditional remedies have been used since ancient times and have been proved to be safe and effective. They are free or very inexpensive and because they are generally mild they are also safe to use. Traditional treatment methods can be done two ways. There are creams and ointments that are administered directly onto the wart and there are preparations intended to be used internally to help balance the body. Use can use any of these options either individually or as a combination treatment.

2. Treatment at Home - There are plenty of over the counter products available which have been designed specifically to get rid of warts on genitals. The HPV virus is so contagious that more products are being released every day. Many people prefer to choose cryotherapy treatment method to get rid of warts. Liquid nitrogen is sprayed over the wart and the frozen wart is then removed easily. Due to the sensitive nature of skin in this area caution is advised when using products like this.

3. Surgical Techniques - If you are feeling wealthy you might choose to use one of the surgical procedures that may be used to get rid of warts on genitals. Surgical removal of the warts provides fast and effective results but the cost of the surgery procedure could be considerably high. Basically there are three types of surgical techniques that are used to remove genital warts. They are electrosurgery where electric current is passed through a thin needle to burn off the warts, cryosurgery where they are frozen for removal and traditional surgery where the wart tissue is simply cut off. Removing warts surgically from the genital area is painful and requires a recovery period.
