Top Mistake After The HCG Diet

By Dr. Danelle Romney

The hCG diet does not guarantee that you will lose weight and keep it off for the rest of your life. Indeed, all of your success on this protocol will be completely undermined if you make a particularly common mistake afterwards. Indeed, this is the worst mistake that you can make.

And this mistake is: Eating Wheat Products

That is correct. When you eat wheat or wheat-based foods, you hit your body with a dietary jolt that throws your metabolism out of whack. This jolt comes from the darling of so many dietitians, the so-called complex carbs. Note that all this means is that the carbs in wheat starch are put together into a chain of glucose molecules

Conventional advice for a good diet is, of course, that you should eat complex carbs such as wheat starch every day. This is supposed to be especially important when combined with eating less sugar (sucrose) or other simple carbohydrates. (Note that sucrose is simply a carb that contains is made of two simpler sugars, glucose and fructose.)

Here is the problem with wheat starch: It consists of a complex of glucose molecules, together called amylopectin A, that is far easier to digest than any other form of amylopectin. This just means that glucose hits your bloodstream faster when you consume wheat than when you consume other starchy foods such as bananas, beans, or potatoes.

In fact, whole wheat bread causes a greater spike in blood sugar (glucose) than sucrose itself. Eating a sandwich with two slices of whole wheat bread is no different, and often worse, than drinking a can of sugary soda or eating a sugary candy bar.

You probably (hopefully) already know that drinking sodas and eating sugary foods will add unwanted pounds of fat to your body after the hCG diet. Now you know that wheat-based foods will do the same. Indeed, these are the foods that, more than likely, got you into the position of having to do the hCG diet in the first place: breads, pastas, breakfast cereals, bagels, pastries, crackers, tortillas...and all manner of wheat-containing foods regardless of whether they are refined or whole-grain.

There is just one more thing that I want to point out about wheat starch that makes it the worst food that you can consume for weight management. It causes such a huge surge in blood sugar and insulin that it leads to a 2-hour roller coaster ride of fullness and hunger, which continues all day long. It starts with the first hunger pangs about two hours after a typical breakfast of cereal or toast or bagel, which drives desire for snacking on other lousy foods containing wheat, which drives hunger up in another two hours, which demands even more snacking, and on and on throughout the day. This is a horrible way to maintain any target weight.

Consuming wheat, in any form, is the main cause of repeated cycles of high blood sugar, which leads to storing more fat. It is, indeed, the worst mistake that most people make once they finish the hCG diet.
